Job Summary:
Under general supervision, the position is responsible for the oversight of a single site/account or fleet including support personnel and drivers. Optimizes the company's assets by monitoring revenue and costs through effective P&L analysis and builds and maintains customer satisfaction through problem solving, communication and relationship building. The position is usually located on site at the customer's facility. Incumbent must be able to work any shift to satisfy the demand for flexibility of scheduling to ensure operational success.  This includes, but is not limited to, day shifts, night shifts and weekend shifts.

Job Description:

We are looking for a leader to join our team responsible for managing the relationships and driving logistics performance with our key strategic global and regional carrier partners. This role combines strategic partnership and negotiations, industry thought leadership, financial and analytical acumen, logistics and warehouse operations with broad ownership and visibility on driving key strategic performance initiatives. The right candidate has strong port dray carrier management experience, analytical competency, and the ability to build strong relationships with leadership both internally and externally. You'll work cross-functionally to write and provide clear and effective communication for Carrier-partners, track the development of onboarded carriers with JB Hunt’s Carrier 360, as well as assist other teams when necessary. Incumbent must be able to work any shift to satisfy the demand for flexibility of scheduling to ensure operational success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the observation of partners and serves as the first point of contact with their assigned partner carriers, customers/ramp to provide exceptional service and trouble-free efficient and profitable operation

  • Forecast freight /customer volume needs, power/equipment needs, and adjust capacity needs as a result to ensure carrier and equipment coverage is seamless

  • Responsible for a smooth and timely freight process flow and management of information from multiple data sources

  • Communicate with customers, internal departments, and team to identify and resolve problems or issues with port, ramp, driver, customer, etc. throughout the day and, where required, when on call

  • Responsible for the creation and communication of key performance indicators, and/or creation of invoices and ensuring customer billing is accurate and timely

  • Conducts P&L analysis and forecast to determine trends in costs/service to maximize profitability and is responsible for the analysis and explanation of the budget versus actual state for each customer through monthly and mid-year business reviews, annual regional assessments, etc

  • Monitors/track & trace orders and takes proactive steps to create a positive experience for our partner carriers and customers as well as port staff

  • Provides inbound container forecasts to drayage providers and ensures all containers are assigned to move within contracted free time

  • Creates enhanced visibility and score carding around detention and demurrage cost and actively works with facilities and partner providers where needed

  • Partners with facilities to balance inbound drayage volume with expected throughput, avoiding bottlenecks created by excessive inbound moves

  • Develops and maintains procedures and working instructions relevant to import/export processes with operational teams

  • Responsible for the onboarding of new carrier partners

  • Monitor current market conditions, technology roadmaps and identify supply/demand challenges and opportunities

  • Manager partner relationships and performance, including but not limited to dispute resolution


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualification:

  • High School Diploma/GED with 3-4 years of Port Dray Transportation/Logistics experience and/or 2-3 years of supervisory experience; must possess a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record as per JBH standards; ability to work across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends if needed.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration/Management, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or related fields with 1-2 years of relevant professional experience or 2-3 years of experience in the Port Dray Transportation/Logistics industry with 2-3 years of supervisory experience

  • Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy

  • Anticipate, recognize, and deal effectively with existing or potential conflicts at the individual, group, or situation level

  • Ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment

  • Ability to adapt to changing environments

  • Establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers

  • Ability to meet or exceed team/partner needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner

  • Effective communication skills

  • Ability to develop and track challenging goals that support business strategies

  • Ability to build and leverage strong working relationships with our partners to assure cost, quality, and delivery targets are met

  • Knowledge of business metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Ability to form and manage effective teams

  • Participate in the process of recruitment of permanent and contract personnel, achieving optimal match between candidate and position

  • Understanding of the resources required to achieve business objectives and ability to plan, mobilize and distribute resources to fulfill business objectives and plans.

  • Excellent written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills, including an ability to effectively communicate across all levels of an organization
