Job Summary:
The Building Maintenance Technician is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and repair of a building or area. Duties can vary from day to day and a maintenance schedule may be implemented so time management skills are required. Building Maintenance Technicians need to have an advanced knowledge of building skills including HVAC, plumbing, drywall installation, painting, and general building repair. Also, the incumbent will need to be adept at using a variety of hand and electrical tools. This position has the possibility to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends. May assist with the onboarding and mentoring of new employees and/or completing special projects.

Job Description:

Applicants can be considered for Building Maintenance Technician, or Sr Building Maintenance Technician depending on verified years of experience and position availability 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

 

  • Evaluate, diagnose, repair and maintain plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems in the building.  

  • Communicate with facilities management about any work that requires outside expert assistance.  

  • Receive and respond to tenant reports of mechanical or maintenance issues on their premises.  

  • Work with tools and supplies necessary to complete projects.  

  • Always maintain corporate safety procedures and comply with access control regulations. 

  • Evacuate building in the event of an emergency. • Ensure compliance with building codes, fire codes, city codes to maintain fire, carbon monoxide, smoke and other safety systems within the structure.  

  • Calibrate instruments and tools required for job responsibilities.  

  • May assist with the onboarding and mentoring of new employees and/or complete special projects.  

  • Work independently and seek assistance as needed. 

  •  Perform other related duties as required or assigned. 


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:   

  • At least 17 years of age 

  • High school diploma or GED, or currently enrolled in a technical degree program in good standing  

  • 5 years of general building maintenance experience 

  • Ability to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends if needed 

  • Proficient and capable of advanced installation of plumbing, HVAC, electrical, custodial, etc. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:   

  • Knowledge of Generators or Power Plants

  • Specialized licenses in one of the following areas (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.). 

  • Ability to exercise discretion  

  • Ability to make time-sensitive decisions   

  • Ability to multitask  

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team  

  • Basic deductive reasoning skills 

  • Proficient active listening skills  

  • Proficient organizational skills  

  • Proficient time management skills  

  • Self-motivation  

  • Must have the ability to climb heights, lift 60 lbs., climb ladders 

  • Working knowledge of carpentry to read blueprints 

  • Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE) 

  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
