Job Summary:
Under routine supervision, this position is responsible for specialized payroll duties for salary, hourly, maintenance, and driver pay. The incumbent provides advanced assistance in a service center environment on payroll-related inquiries to employees across J.B. Hunt including complex payroll inquiry support and resolution, transaction processing, document and data collection/validation and records retention activities.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Calculate and process standard payroll cycles and off-cycle payroll for the entire organization, including drivers and office staff in and outside of the United States (e.g., International/Canadian)
  • Provide ad hoc payroll processing guidance and support, as needed
  • Guide recording of changes affecting net wages, such as exemptions, insurance coverage, garnishments and loan payments, for each employee
  • Provide guidance and support on Tier 3 response to complex and/or escalated inquiries and requests
  • Provide guidance on complex advances and and payroll-related transactions related to terminations
  • Verify the accuracy of payroll preparation and processing, payroll accounting, tax filing and remittance, benefits maintenance, and various special payments
  • Ensure the accuracy of wage verification, computing, withholding, or deductions associated with employees' net payments
  • Ensure forms are current and accurate, such as W-2s and policies associated with federal, state, and local authorities
  • Review and audit payroll data, payroll-related accounting records, production records, and individual attendance records within the HRIS and payroll system; correct errors to ensure accuracy and completeness of payroll and compliance with regulations
  • Prepare reports summarizing and forecasting business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings, based on past, present and expected operations
  • Work with internal staff and external vendors and suppliers to clarify differences and reconcile conflicts
  • Monitor the balance of payroll runs and any changes in legal requirements including minimum wage, the local tax rate, and related federal and state regulations; along with specialties like calculating military pay
  • Ensure SOX compliance for payroll processes
  • Train and mentor individuals across the payroll team
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Finance or related field with 1 or more years of related experience, education or training; or 5 years combined relevant experience, education and training.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Finance or related field with 2 or more years of related experience, education or training Experience in a call center environment, Payroll, Finance or Human Resources.
  • Ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment
  • Ability to be both flexible and adaptable
  • Ability to communicate effectively through all mediums
  • Analytical skills

  • Experience in Microsoft Programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
