Our Community, Our Corporate Social Responsibility

Through company giving, J.B. Hunt strives to make a positive impact on our people and our community.

Giving back to the communities we serve is important to J.B. Hunt. We strive to make business decisions that support the interests and wellbeing of our employees while bettering the world around us. As a company, we’ve identified four major areas where we feel we can make the biggest social impact.

In this season of giving, we’re sharing more about J.B. Hunt’s giving pillars and some of the recent ways we’ve taken action through our corporate social responsibility efforts.

Crisis Management

At J.B. Hunt, we take action to support our employees and our communities through crisis scenarios. For the past several months, one crisis has been at the forefront of everyone’s mind – the COVID-19 pandemic.

Providing Protective Materials for Essential Workers

At the onset of the pandemic, we provided more than 500,000 protective masks, 122,000 bottles of hand sanitizer, and 1.4 million pairs of gloves to company-owned and customer facilities in order to protect our employees. We also partnered with the Northwest Arkansas Council in May 2020 to distribute nearly $600,000 worth of personal protective equipment (PPE) to medical facilities in our community. This donation included masks, gowns and goggles to help protect patients and healthcare professionals serving on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics

In 2021, we’ve made a big effort to provide access to COVID-19 vaccines to all employees, and their families, choosing to get vaccinated. So far, J.B. Hunt has hosted over 30 on-site vaccine clinics at our corporate campus, helping nearly 30,000 Arkansans receive their first, second, and booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. We will continue to host additional clinics in the coming months as needed.

Truckers Against Trafficking

The COVID-19 pandemic is not the only crisis we help combat. J.B. Hunt has long been a proud sponsor of Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT), a nonprofit organization that educates and equips drivers and transportation professionals with tools to help fight human trafficking. J.B. Hunt launched a Truckers Against Trafficking training as part of our driver orientation in 2014, and as of 2020, we have trained more than 102,000 employees on how to identify potential situations of human trafficking and safely intervene when on the road.

We have a long history of collaborating with the University of Arkansas, located near our corporate campus in Northwest Arkansas. This year, J.B. Hunt announced a $2.25 million collaboration with the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University that will increase awareness of inclusion in transportation and logistics and explore new, sustainable solutions to address current and potential industry challenges. We also established a $1 million-dollar endowed scholarship fund to further promote inclusion and encourage students of all backgrounds to pursue supply chain careers.

Adopt-a-Class

Each year, J.B. Hunt celebrates Adopt-a-Class, an annual program where J.B. Hunt company drivers nominate their child or grandchild’s elementary school classroom that, to them personally, is most deserving of a school supply donation. J.B. Hunt started Adopt-a-Class in 2013, and to date, we are proud to have donated over $94,500 worth of supplies to more than 100 schools across the country.

Hunt’s overall investment with Arkansas Children’s Northwest to $10 million.

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

We recently made a $1.25 million contribution to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to help advance their mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. The gift will support AFSP programs nationwide and will include education, community resources and help create a space for important conversations around mental health and suicide prevention.

Hunt made a pledge to hire 10,000 veterans by 2020, a goal we were excited to surpass. We remain committed to military hiring moving forward, and have set an ongoing goal of hiring 1,600 more veterans every year.

Training and Development

J.B. Hunt implements many training and development resources, like our SkillBridge* Internship program and mentorship initiatives, to support employees transitioning from military to civilian careers. The program provides hands-on training and resources necessary for employees to find success in their new career at J.B. Hunt.

Our company Veterans Employee Resource Group (VERG) helps veterans, and employees who support our service members, build community at work, and provides a safe space for learning, support and understanding at J.B. Hunt.

Community Partnerships

J.B. Hunt collaborates with several non-profit organizations and programs to provide financial assistance, job training, placement services, accommodation and support for military men and women. We also host annual events, like Wreaths Across America, to further pay respect to those who serve our country and the sacrifices they make.
