What previous experience do I need to become a J.B. Hunt diesel technician?   

At J.B. Hunt, we have many diesel technician opportunities where you could be a fit, from entry-level roles to senior technician positions. Whether you’re fresh out of high school with no prior experience, or bring years of industry knowledge, all backgrounds are welcome to apply to the position that best fits your qualifications and career goals.  

Do I need any certifications before I can join the team? 

For entry-level diesel technician roles, you don’t need any certification to join our team. In fact, over the course of your first year at J.B. Hunt, we will help you achieve your Air Brake certification. To qualify for more senior diesel technician positions, you will need to be Air Brake and Department of Transportation (DOT) certified. Other licenses, like A/C certifications for tractor and trailer technicians, are a bonus, but not required to join our team.  

Does J.B. Hunt offer on-the-job equipment maintenance training?  

Available at J.B. Hunt shops across the country, we offer training opportunities, like our Technician Trainee and Technician Career Advancement programs, that give entry-level diesel technicians the tools and support necessary to build a successful fleet maintenance career with J.B. Hunt. These programs are great paid opportunities for technicians just starting out, where you can gain on-the-job training and experience while working full-time.
