Ideas That Drive Big Impact

Through our ELEVATION program, we encourage our people to identify areas of waste, uncover unnecessary costs or discover ways to be more efficient, all of which helps strengthen our business for the long term. Over the past decade, our people have submitted more than 33,000 ideas that our ELEVATION team carefully reviews to find ideas that deliver meaningful benefits and create value.
Ideas like one from Andrew, a senior director in pricing, who while analyzing operational data, noticed some intermodal trucks were driving empty even when available loads were nearby. By questioning how we planned loads, he realized that the boundaries we had in place sometimes prevented teams from seeing load opportunities outside of their assigned area. Andrew’s curiosity led to a change that’s helping us move more freight with fewer empty miles.
Delivering Value Through Technology
Our technology empowers our people to make smarter, faster decisions that keep us, along with those we serve, moving forward. And that’s just what our Engineering and Technology team did when they tackled a technical issue that was impacting a customer.
To address an issue that was causing downtime for our customer, our people found a way to solve for the disruption in their operations, preventing eight hours of downtime. They were able to put a new system in place that would be an automatic fix if the issue occurred again. By utilizing our technology, our people helped deliver a better outcome for our customer.
Jerry, one of our maintenance technicians, also used technology to transform his day-to-day work. By using a diagnostic tool to efficiently narrow down potential issues, he made troubleshooting faster and more accurate. The time he would have spent identifying the problem can now be used to do the repair, creating efficiency and getting our drivers back on the road quicker.
These examples of our people utilizing our technology to deliver value and excellence for our customers are just part of our larger innovation story. Whether it’s engineering better processes, using robotic automation or leveraging AI, we’re focused on helping our teams work more purposefully and efficiently.
